Speaking in Bones is the 18th novel by Kathy
Reichs, a book that will be released this week. Reichs is an impressive woman
who became a forensic anthropologist before she became a crime writer. She was
a producer for the TV series “Bones” which is loosely based on her novels, and
thus, on her life.
This book is
about Temperance Brennan, Tempe, who is a consultant at North Carolina’s Mecklenburg
County Medical Examiner’s Office. Brennan seems to be all about her cases, but
is disorganized in her personal life to the extent she can’t get her taxes done
on time and does not know what to do with a wedding proposal. Her answer –
procrastinate while pursuing clues of her latest case. However, this book did
not sustain my interest. I found the character development to be weak and the
plot was less than gripping. I abandoned the book at the halfway mark.
